Disc Plough Size Chart: How Many Discs for Your Tractor?
How many discs can your tractor pull? Which disc diameter should you choose? This disc plough size chart answers both questions using the SH steel plate disc plough range – from a light 3-disc plough for an 18 hp compact tractor to a 6-disc plough for tractors of 120 hp and more. Use it to shortlist the right model before you ask for a quotation.

| 1SH-430 | 4 | 710 mm | 1.2 m | 300 mm | 580 kg | 70–90 hp |
| 1SH-525 | 5 | 660 mm | 1.25 m | 250–300 mm | 580 kg | ≥100 hp |
| 1SH-625 | 6 | 660 mm | 1.5 m | 250–300 mm | 700 kg | ≥120 hp |
The SH FAZA-type ploughs follow the same size steps. All are three-point mounted.

How to Read the Model Number
In the model name, the first figure is the number of discs and the last two figures indicate the disc size: “15” for 460 mm, “20” for 510 mm, “25” for 660 mm and “30” for 710 mm. So a 1SH-425 has four 660 mm discs, and a 1SH-330 has three 710 mm discs.
Choosing by Tractor Power
- 18–40 hp compact tractors: 2- or 3-disc ploughs with 460–510 mm discs (1SH-315, 1SH-220, 1SH-320). Light, easy to lift, ploughing 180–200 mm deep.
- 35–70 hp tractors: 2- or 3-disc ploughs with 660–710 mm discs (1SH-230, 1SH-325, 1SH-330) for deeper ploughing of 250–300 mm.
- 70–90 hp tractors: 4-disc models (1SH-425, 1SH-430).
- 100 hp and above: 5- and 6-disc models (1SH-525, 1SH-625).
On heavy clay, dry hardpan or new land, choose one size smaller than the table suggests. Our tractor horsepower guide explains why soil type changes the power you need.

Smaller Discs or Larger Discs?
Larger discs (660–710 mm) reach deeper, roll over stones and roots more easily and keep cutting in trashy ground. They also make the plough heavier, so the tractor needs more lift capacity.
Smaller discs (460–510 mm) keep the plough light for small tractors and are ideal for shallower ploughing in gardens, orchards and small fields.

Common Sizing Mistakes
- Buying by engine power only: a tractor may have enough horsepower but too little lift capacity for a heavy plough with large discs.
- Ignoring soil type: the same tractor that pulls four discs in sandy loam may only manage three in wet clay.
- Too narrow for the tractor: if the plough is narrower than the rear tyre track, the wheel runs on unploughed soil and compacts it.
- Forgetting ballast: a long mounted plough lifts the front wheels; add front weights so the tractor steers safely.
Before You Order: Checklist
- Tractor engine power and rear lift capacity.
- Hitch category of your three-point linkage.
- Soil type: sandy, loam, clay, stony or new land.
- Ploughing depth you need.
- Rear tyre track width – the plough should cover the wheel marks.
