Hydraulic Folding Disc Harrow Guide: Heavy Harrows for 80–300 HP (Rastra Pesada)
A hydraulic folding disc harrow lets one high-power tractor cover more than 4 metres per pass and still drive on farm roads. That makes it a practical choice for large soybean, corn and sugarcane farms. This guide compares our heavy harrow range from 80 to 300 hp, explains how folding works, and shows what to check before you buy a rastra pesada for a large farm.

How a Hydraulic Folding Disc Harrow Works
The harrow has a centre frame and two side wings, each carrying gangs of 660 mm discs. Hydraulic cylinders, driven by the tractor’s hydraulic system, lift the wings for transport and lower them for work. Transport wheels carry the weight on the road, and the tractor pulls the machine on a trailed hitch.
- Working position: wings down, all gangs on the ground, full width.
- Transport position: wings up, narrow enough for gates and roads, with more than 260 mm ground clearance.
- Depth: about 240 mm working depth on the 1SH-D series.
SH Heavy and Folding Disc Harrow Models
We build three heavy series. All data are from our harrows page:
| Model | Working width | Discs | Weight | Output | Tractor |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1SH-D4.4 (folding) | 4.4 m | 40 × 660 mm | 3100–3150 kg | 2.7 ha/h | 105–110 hp |
| 1SH-D4.8 (folding) | 4.8 m | 44 × 660 mm | 3250–3300 kg | 3.2 ha/h | 115–120 hp |
| 1SH-D5.3 (folding) | 5.3 m | 48 × 660 mm | 3400–3450 kg | 3.8 ha/h | 125–130 hp |
| 1SH-D6.2 (folding) | 6.2 m | 56 × 660 mm | 4150–4200 kg | 4.65 ha/h | 140–160 hp |
| 1SH-H2.2 to H5.3 (hydraulic offset) | 2.2–5.3 m | 20–48 × 660 mm | 1250–1780 kg | – | 80–140 hp |
| SH-G108 (extra-large folding) | about 7 m overall width | 108 × 910 × 8 mm | 10,500–11,000 kg | – | 200–300 hp |
The 1SH-D series uses a blade spacing of 230 mm. The SH-G108 is built on a 120 mm square tube frame and is about 13 m long.

Folding Harrow or Hydraulic Offset Harrow?
Hydraulic offset harrows (1SH-H) are compact, heavy-duty machines for 80–140 hp tractors. Their 23° maximum gang angle and weight make them strong in hard ground and heavy residue. Read our heavy duty disc harrow guide for details.
Folding harrows (1SH-D) are the choice when you have 105–160 hp and large, open fields. The wider frame gives more hectares per hour, and folding keeps transport legal and safe.
The extra-large SH-G108 is for contractors and big estates with 200–300 hp tractors.
Choosing a Heavy Disc Harrow for Large Farms
- Match power, not just width. Use the matching power column; in heavy clay or wet soil choose the next smaller model.
- Check hydraulics. The tractor needs enough remote valves for folding and depth control.
- Plan transport. Measure gates, bridges and road widths on your routes.
- Think about discs. Notched 660 mm blades on the front gang cut residue; see our harrow disc blade sizes article.
- Need a tractor? Our 4WD tractors from 100 to 200 hp match these harrows.

Field Setup and Maintenance
- Level the frame so front and rear gangs work at the same depth.
- Set the gang angle for the soil; more angle cuts deeper but needs more power.
- Grease gang bearings and wing pivots every working day.
- Check hydraulic hoses and cylinder seals before each season.
- Keep gang bolts tight and replace worn discs in sets.
Fewer, wider passes save fuel and protect soil structure, one of the aims of sustainable agricultural mechanization promoted by the FAO.
Common Buying Mistakes
- Choosing the widest folding harrow for a tractor at the bottom of its power range.
- Ignoring hydraulic valve requirements.
- Forgetting spare 660 mm discs and bearings for the first season.

FAQ
What size hydraulic folding disc harrow fits a 120 hp tractor?
The 1SH-D4.8 (4.8 m, 44 discs) suits 115–120 hp. In heavy soil choose the 1SH-D4.4.
¿Qué rastra pesada recomiendan para un tractor de 150 hp?
La rastra plegable 1SH-D6.2, de 6,2 m y 56 discos, es para tractores de 140 a 160 hp.
Is a rastra de discos hidráulica the same as a folding harrow?
Not always. “Hidráulica” means hydraulic control; our 1SH-H is hydraulic but not folding, while the 1SH-D is hydraulic and folding.
Can you ship a heavy disc harrow for large farms in a container?
Yes. Harrows are packed for export; send your destination port and we will advise on loading.
